MacRitchie Accident!!!

Recee Trekking Team: Ryan, Evelyn, Justin, Wan Sin, Billy & Josh

Route: MacRitchie to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

Date: 20/08/05

Day: Saturday

Weather: Rainy

Trail Condition: Wet and Muddy

The recee is for the up and coming event for Hwa Chong Insitute. We set off at around 1330hrs and we decide on which route to take inside the trail. I was assigned as the so call "Advance Party" to move infront of the pack to plant or to construct Trail signs or directional tell tale signs for the pack behind to follow…

When we reached the Ranger Station, Billy and I headed infront to plant the signs while the rest of the team will try to track us down. Everything went quite smoothly as we went up to the Tree Top Walk and the view there was still the same and good as ever. Just as the pack reaches the Tree Top Walk, thunder roared from a distance… Still having fear from the previous lightning strike experience I try not to think so much abt the thunder which had reached above us in just a matter of minutes.. We proceeded to the end of the walk and we headed the one way path to the X-Junction of Rifle Range Link and the Petaling Hut Trail… We made a directional sign there and we proceed tot he place where the faithful accident happened - to me!!

We carried on the trail happily and then we came across the Pipe line… we usually walk on the pipe line but It had been block off… I decided to skirt around the pipe line and cross from the bottom of it.. I took a few pictures of the rest of the team attempting to cross the pipe line.. I then went up to the other side of the pipe line to have a beta shot of them. I took around 4-5 shots then i decided to change my angle and location for a close up shot. I "step air" with my left feet and i dropped towards my left. My right feet was still on the concrete platform while i slammed my left ribcage on the ground, my head then slammed on my inner left arm causing a concussion to brian. I then slide downwards for around 1-2 feet… I laied there… "R U alrite not?" i heard them asking, some of them still confused of wat had happened.. I pass my camera to Billy and i slowly help myself up on my feet again… I did a quick full body check on myself for any injuries and also to ensure tat i’m in good condition. Then i went down to the stream to clean myself with the water… while the rest looked on with concerning eyes..(I guess haha..)

Soon after i’ve clean up myself we carried on our trek and recee… We headed all the way along Rifle Range link and hit the Rifle Range Road. It started to rain shortly after we arrived at Riflr Range Flyover(Sing Tel Dish along BKE). Then we head towards Bukit Timah Nature Reserve… It was a very nice place with a nice view.. We then turned into the Bike Track and along the way we saw plenty of Rambutans trees full of rambutans.. Errgh!! Can see cannot eat.. And tats killing me mann… Haha.. only justin get to ate 1  rambutan which he found on the ground.. So nice… Hmmm.. we ended our recee at the foot of the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Ranger Station.

We then went to the Hindede Quarry to have a break… Billy, Evelyn and Josh then went off while the rest of the hungry pack went to have our dinner at the Johnson Duck along bukit timah.

Cheerios-sutra rating: Die Die Must Try. The loh chap is fantastic mann.. made with some chinese herbs…

Goodbye my “P” Plate!!! Or maybe not….

Haha.. its been 1 year since i’ve got my driver’s license… Hahah.. Goodbye to my "P" Plate!! haha.. Neh.. don think its goodbye la.. I’ll Continue to put the "P" Plate till i’m really confident in my driving..

Although it has been 1 year but at the 31/7/2005 sunday, i met an accident.. I’ve been grounded since then.. been 24 days w/o driving liao.. so sad.. But i kinda having phobia in driving too.. donoe when will i be able to pick up the car keys and sit in the driver’s sit once again.. haiz..

But Its okay… I’ll jus wait ya.. no problem at all..

I just attended my brother’s 12 DART Course Officiating Ceremony with my family. It was a short ceremony and a team which initially started with 55 trainees filtered to 18, eventually 9 passed out as DART.

The new officiated DART had pride written on their faces… 7 weeks of training,hardship,endurance,tunneling,USAR,Height Resue and plenty more.

I’ve got a new Idol myself mann.. I’m so proud of him..

On 17/8/05 Wednesday, I had an appointment as an External Freelance Instructor at the Dairy Farm Adventure Center. I arrived at 1240hrs in the cloudy  afternoon; I reported for duty at the Camp Manager’s office. I was assigned duty for the rockwall station.

I had only 20 mins to rigged ur the rockwall and ensure the surrounding environment is safe for the conducting of the activity. At around 1305hrs the 1st team arrives at my station, the trainers gave the briefing for the session. I really appreciated the help of the 4 trainers who assisted me thru out the activity. And its really a small world, 2 of the trainers from Innotrek are from SPAdventurers, one of them is Han Shen, the guy who let me drove the power boat in the recent Pulau Huntu Kayaking Expedition by SPRover.

Then just before we cleared the 1st group, rain sets in.. we evac from the rockwall and headed for shelter. While evacuating, i saw a familar face… She is a student from yishun sec where cci had conducted amazing race for them before.. I was the video camera man for that activity.. and she remembers me.. haha.. Then around 15-20mins later, the rain stopped. We carried on the activity once again for around 1/2 an hr to 45mins then we heard thunder roaring in the distance then it rained… Again we evac to the shelter…

This time the EFIs were about 100meter from the tower which consist of the rockwall, Zip-Line a.k.a Flying Fox and the Abseiling wall. just about 15-20mins after the evacuation, we saw a lighting which flashes from the left corner of my eye and hit the tower. There is no loud bang. All i saw is the flash and heard "zeeeep" then the EFIs scramp for safety. "Hahaha…" We started to laugh aloud as we felt very funny… It was really a close shave mann.. i was so amazed.. we were so close to the strike.. Imagine if we did not evac from the tower… I wouldn’t be here writing this mann.. U all will be coming to my hse void deck for curry chicken mann.. Hmmm.. life is too short mann.. I’ve always wanted to write down my so call "will" or last words as i’m dealing wif outdoor stuffs and its very unpredictable outside think i beta do it before it’s too late mann… and this incident make my decision even stronger mann.. I’ll post it up once its done.. haha..

Then one of the EFI reported about the incident… The call to cut the activity was given. About 30mins ltr the green light was given once again to resume activity as the sky clears..

Then moments ltr, it rained again.. this time the decision was to call off all outdoor activity as its late and the event will end in 20mins time.. so no point to carry on..

We headed back tot he tower and quickly packed up everthing before the next lighting visited us at the tower again.. haha.. After we packed everything i realised my favourite Nalgene bottle bottle was lost.. Darn it.. I was searching high and low, headed back to the tower twice with the risked of being striked by lighting again… but still no sigh of it.. Just as i was about to give up the search, I decided to go check out the dom of the students… And at last there i saw.. My Nalgene bottle…  Then i headed home with a tired body plus a headache and an empty stomach..

Post Accident…

Well, woked up early in the morning to sent my car for Accident Report at Yishun Independent Damage Accessment Centre(IDAC). I was still very nervous from the accident tat happened on tat faithful nite, so was a little scare to be back on the driver’s sit again.. Upon exiting the Multi-storey-carpark, i saw a lot of policemen, cops and CIDs jus opposit the carpark.. The area was condored off with Yellow "Crime Scene" & blue "Police" tapes.. The Scene of Crime Van was there too.. Without much thinking i jus went off to yishun IDAC.

I made a report at the IDAC and the staff was very friendly and assisted me thru out the process.. I sketched out the scene of the incident for record purposes too.. then photos of my vehicle were taken for evidence… I was actually very impressed with the goverment to come out with such procedures for RTAs.. It really protects the people from false claims of repairs in this way… So Singaporeans be happy and proud tat u guys had such a good goverment… Think of the positive side mann… After the report was made i headed back to Base Camp…

Upon reaching the carpark at my block i still saw the Police were still there.. The atmosphere seems tense mann.. the CIDs were all with gloves and shoe covers to prevent contamination of the crime scene… I parked my car and my "Passion For Explorations" kicks in.. haha..  i headed straight to the street opp the incident and observed the scene… From my angle, i saw a CID office squatting down and looking for clues from the crime scene.. Most of the other officer were taking a break at the carpark.. They had a hard time too.. phew… Later tat evening, i found out tat the scene was actually a murder case.. a manager was stabbed on the heart and left to death… my neighbourhood has been a peaceful little street and I was actually quite shocked to have learnt abt the incident… Hope the police can solve the case soon… Good luck to them..

Road Traffic Accident…

Date of Accident: 31/7/05 Sunday

Location: Ang Moi Koi Ave 1 turning into CTE towards SLE.

Incident:

I was Filtering out to the CTE and was almost out, I checked my blind spot and when i turned my head back i saw the car infront of me stopped suddenly, I jammed on my brakes but, its too late. So i turn my steering hard left to avoid head on collision. It did help and my right front bumper hit the rear left bumper of the vehicle infront. "I knew it!!" I said… for the past weeks i had some feelings that i’ll get into some trouble or wat.. I on my hazard lights and I saw the driver of the front vehicle getting out of his car… He waved at me.. i was so "pai sae" so i waved back.. then i got out of my vehicle.. I apologised immediately… The driver was a friendly guy, guess wats his job? haha.. he is a driving Instructor mann.. I felt beta upon seeing all the parking poles in his boot.. haha.. he took out a camera and started taking pictures of the scene.. "Uncle, U take picture 1st la" i told him.. After taking all the pics, we droved to the road shoulder and we discussed abt the incident.. As i was a green horn, he taught me wat to do instead.. haha.. learned something out of the RTA instead… Never stop learning ya.. haha.. we exchanged contact no. and our insurance policy no. for claiming… My car suffered from a broken side lamp and his car suffered from a cracked bumper… I was actually pondering wat is the actual function of the bumper of a vehicle now mann.. It cracked so easily.. My car’s bumper was tougher than the victim’s.. hmmm… maybe its some special engineered bumper for new vehicles?? crack to disperse the impact like those F1 cars? Who knows?

Another surprised is tat the driver actually had the same surname with me!! haha.. we both laughed upon knowing tat.. Anyone wan to buy 4D? haha.. I don bet la.. if u wan my vehicle’s no. is 4230… Strike liao must blanja me meal hor.. haha.. drinks also can.. me anything one..

The accident scene kept flashing back to me for the whole night mann.. wasnt able to get a good nite’s rest mann.. I was very scary even though its just a bumb…  Think i’m having phobia in driving liao.. sianz.. Then the next thing i did was to go home to inform my "Ah Lao" (dad) abt the incident.. He was furious mann.. tats should be obvious.. I felt so bad.. Was already scared the hell out of me during the RTA liao then reached home still ganna screwed.. Sianz.. Wat to do.. Just stood there and get screwed loh.. haiz..

The next morning i went to the Income HQ at Victorial Street to check out the procedure for the incident… Everything was quite alrite.. But I’ll need to proceed to the IDAC to make a official Accident Report.
